about

Creatures is a story about three creatures that I accidentally came across on the internet. To be exact, I came across a picture of those creatures, that served as a pretext for the cover.

The creatures followed me for quite a long time and gave me no rest. I knew that I had to react to them musically somehow. And then it occurred to me that each of the creatures is simply the personification of some situation. I associated a very specific situation with each of the creatures. I named these creatures to myself. Blue is Oriku. Middle yellow is Tachi. And the yellow one with his hands up is Yo.

Oriku reminded me of some dark religious ritual. Dark and funny at the same time. A ritual full of contradictions and stuffed with forced ecstasy.

Tachi is a prankster who pretends to be serious. The kind who stubbornly demands attention, being caught up in something completely different himself.

Yo, he's a kindly giant, ready to cry for a lost dog, though apparently scary.

These three creatures followed me for so long that I finally recorded an introductory version of a piece about Tachi and sent it to Roland Devocelle. Roland fascinated me with his saxophone playing technique. He sent me back so much material that all three "songs" were written as a result. And suddenly it became clear to me why these creatures are together. Listen and you might discover it too.
